Taiwanese Celebrity Son Arrested Over Homemade Flamethrower Weapon

Date:

The son of veteran Taiwanese entertainers Sun Peng and Ti Ying has been arrested after allegedly testing a homemade flamethrower and possessing suspected illegal firearms.

Sun Anzuo, who has reportedly changed his name to Sun Jianhao, was detained by police on Friday after uploading a video online showcasing what he described as his “latest invention”.

In the clip, Sun was seen testing a homemade flamethrower powered by kerosene near a riverside area in Beitou, Taiwan.

The device reportedly released large bursts of fire and thick black smoke, sparking concerns over public safety due to the location being close to residential areas and public walkways surrounded by flammable vegetation.

Authorities said the stunt posed a serious fire hazard and could have endangered nearby residents.

Police later arrested both Sun and his manager for offences linked to public danger and intimidation.

The case escalated further after investigators searched Sun’s residence and allegedly discovered two prohibited weapons, including a replica firearm and another suspected modified gun.

Initial examinations reportedly suggested one of the weapons may possess lethal capability, with the firearm now sent for forensic testing by Taiwan’s Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Prosecutors warned that if the weapon is confirmed to be functional and capable of causing harm, Sun could face serious charges under Taiwan’s firearms control laws.

Taiwanese prosecutors have since applied to detain Sun without visitation rights while investigations continue.

According to reports, prosecutors cited concerns that the suspect could flee, destroy evidence, coordinate testimonies or repeat similar offences.

A detention hearing is expected to take place later on Saturday.

Legal experts in Taiwan noted that Sun previously faced controversy during his studies in the United States after being linked to a threat involving firearms.

He was also reportedly investigated in 2024 after appearing in Taipei’s Xinyi entertainment district carrying a gas-powered firearm device.

Lawyers believe his past history involving weapons-related incidents may influence the court’s decision regarding detention.
