KCPS to Continue Managing Kuching Parking Services During Transition Period

Date:

The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) and the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) have extended the contract of Kuching City Parking Systems Sdn Bhd (KCPS) for three months, ahead of appointing a new operator to take over the development, management, and operation of Kuching’s smart parking system.

In a statement, both councils said the extension, effective August 1, 2025, will allow KCPS to continue overseeing parking services in the city.

“This extension is part of a planned transition to introduce a new smart parking system across Sarawak, which will replace the current KCPS operations once the extension expires.

“The appointed vendor will be tasked with rolling out a statewide system, complete with a mobile app and upgraded digital infrastructure designed to improve user convenience and service efficiency,” the statement said.

During this period, KCPS will continue running existing operations without disruption, ensuring that parking services remain stable and accessible while technical and operational preparations for the new system are finalized.

As of now, MBKS and DBKU have not implemented the smart parking system, meaning the current KCPS-managed setup will remain in place.

“This also means that traditional paper parking coupons will still be used throughout the transition,” the statement added.

Both councils also thanked the public for their patience, support, and understanding during the transitional phase.
