An elderly woman was believed to have lost her way while heading home before driving against traffic along Kilometer 10.8 of the Damansara–Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) on Monday.
The incident went viral after a video on social media showed a car travelling against the flow of traffic on the highway.
Petaling Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said police detected the viral video at about 1pm on Tuesday.
He said initial investigations found that the incident occurred at about 9.30pm the previous night.
The woman, a local in her 80s, is believed to have become disoriented while trying to find her way home.
She then drove against traffic in an attempt to locate an exit from the DASH highway.
Police said no accident was reported involving the vehicle or any other road users during the incident.
The suspect has since been arrested and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Authorities also reminded road users to always comply with traffic laws to avoid unwanted incidents.
Police added that those who witnessed the incident are urged to assist investigations.
