Arsenal have finally ended their 22-year wait for a Premier League title after being officially crowned champions on Tuesday following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth.
Mikel Arteta’s side sealed the title with one game remaining after City failed to secure victory on the south coast, leaving Arsenal four points clear at the top of the table.
Arsenal had already done their part a day earlier with a narrow 1-0 win over Burnley, piling pressure on defending champions Manchester City to deliver a must-win result.
However, Bournemouth stunned City after Eli Junior Kroupi opened the scoring in the first half before Erling Haaland grabbed a late equaliser deep into stoppage time that ultimately proved insufficient.
The result sparked emotional celebrations across North London as Arsenal secured their 14th English league title — their first since the famous unbeaten “Invincibles” campaign under Arsène Wenger in the 2003-04 season.
It also marks Arsenal’s first major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 2020 during Arteta’s debut season in charge after replacing Unai Emery.
For years, Arsenal had been labelled nearly men after finishing runners-up in the previous three Premier League campaigns, but Arteta’s side finally delivered under pressure following a season defined by consistency, defensive strength and relentless intensity.
The 44-year-old Arteta also becomes the youngest Arsenal manager to guide the club to a Premier League title.
Celebrations quickly erupted outside the Emirates Stadium shortly after the final whistle in Bournemouth, with fans waving flags, setting off red flares and flooding the streets to celebrate the historic achievement.
Even British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, a well-known Arsenal supporter, joined the celebrations online by posting: “22 long years for Arsenal. But finally we’re back where we belong.”
Reports also suggest Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola could leave the club at the end of the season after a hugely successful decade in charge.
Arsenal’s dream campaign may not be over yet, as the club is also preparing for the UEFA Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain F.C. in Budapest on May 30.
Victory in Europe would secure Arsenal’s first-ever Champions League trophy and potentially cement this squad as one of the greatest teams in the club’s history.
