A tragic accident in southern China has left 10 people dead after a pickup truck carrying workers plunged into a river while crossing a flooded bridge in Guangxi province.
The incident happened last Saturday in Huanjiang County, Guangxi, when a pickup truck transporting 15 people fell into the water near Yongquan Village in Luoyang Town.
According to local authorities quoted by Xinhua News Agency, all previously missing victims have now been located following an intensive search and rescue operation.
Officials confirmed that five people survived the accident while 10 others lost their lives.
Earlier reports from Chinese media stated that a group of 28 workers had been hired to plant sweet potatoes among tea-oil camellia trees in the area earlier that day.
After work ended, 13 workers reportedly left on their own while the remaining 15 boarded the pickup truck for the journey home.
The vehicle was travelling across a flooded low-water bridge in Kenren Tun when it suddenly plunged into the river.
Rescue teams rushed to the scene and initially pulled six people from the water. Five survivors escaped without life-threatening injuries, while one victim was found without vital signs.
Nine others were initially reported missing before authorities later confirmed all victims had been recovered.
The heartbreaking incident has sparked renewed concerns online in China regarding transportation safety in rural areas, especially involving overcrowded work vehicles and dangerous flooded crossings during poor weather conditions.
