Popular Drink Chain Sparks Debate by Refusing RM100 Notes

Date:

A well-known beverage chain recently caused a stir online after posting a notice stating that RM100 notes would not be accepted at its outlets. The notice read: “Sorry, we do not accept RM100 notes.” A photo of the sign quickly went viral after being shared on social media.

The chain is known for its affordable drinks, with a cup of lemon beverage priced at just RM3, making the move seem even more unusual and prompting discussion among customers.

Public reactions have been mixed. Some criticized the move as untimely and potentially damaging to customer experience, while others understood the reasoning, pointing out that small stores can face cash flow and change issues during busy periods.

Many netizens highlighted the practical difficulties faced by low-cost chains, especially when customers try to pay with large denominations, which can slow down transactions and create challenges in providing correct change.

“One hundred ringgit is way more than what you need for a RM3 drink. Refusing big bills may just be a temporary measure to manage cash flow,” one comment read.

Others joked, “Even if you’re loaded, with only RM100 in your wallet, you still can’t get a cup of lemon tea!”

As of now, the beverage chain has not issued an official response, and it remains unclear whether this policy is limited to the specific outlet or will be applied nationwide.
