Hannah Yeoh has confirmed that police reports have been lodged following the spread of allegations linked to a land status conversion issue involving her.
The Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) described the accusations circulating online as baseless and an extreme form of defamation.
The controversy emerged after a researcher questioned how Hannah allegedly managed to obtain special approval to convert a residential property in Cheras from leasehold to freehold status within a short period of time.
The viral content also raised comparisons with many Malaysians, particularly Malays, who were allegedly still waiting years for similar freehold conversions involving their own properties.
In a separate statement, Hannah also lodged a police report over claims suggesting there had been political interference in the land conversion approval process.
Among the allegations circulating online were questions regarding the transparency of the approval procedure and claims linked to the conversion of the land title.
Hannah stressed that the accusations were untrue and has now left the matter to the authorities for further investigation.
