With the cost of living continuing to rise in recent years, finding affordable meals at eateries has become increasingly challenging.
Even food that is typically considered “budget-friendly” is not spared from price increases, as one man in Penang recently discovered.
A photo shared in the Facebook group 槟城吹水站 showed a packet of nasi campur consisting of white rice, a piece of fried chicken and curry sauce.
According to the post, the man said he was charged RM12 for the meal at a well-known nasi campur stall in Bayan Lepas, Penang.
He expressed disbelief over the price, questioning whether it was too expensive for what was served.
The post quickly sparked discussion among netizens, with some suggesting that the price was unreasonable for the portion provided.
Others, however, felt the customer should have clarified the price at the stall itself instead of raising the issue online later.
Meanwhile, one user joked that they preferred not to comment too much, fearing they would be told to “cook at home” instead.
The discussion reflects ongoing debates among Malaysians about food pricing and the rising cost of daily meals.
