Eight-Year-Old Boy Among Three Injured After BMW Crashes Into Outdoor Seating Area

Date:

An eight-year-old boy was among three people rushed to hospital after a BMW crashed into a shop at a motorway service station in Cardiff.

Emergency services were called to the Cardiff Gate Services near Junction 30 of the M4 at around 11.45am on May 25 following reports of a serious collision involving a vehicle and a retail premises.

According to police, the black BMW, driven by a 76-year-old woman, allegedly struck people seated at an outdoor table before crashing directly into the building.

The driver, an eight-year-old child and a 39-year-old man — both believed to be pedestrians at the scene — were all taken to hospital for treatment.

Authorities later confirmed that none of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.

South Wales Police said investigations are currently underway to determine exactly how the incident happened.

Witnesses described chaotic scenes moments after the crash, with several members of the public reportedly rushing to help.

One woman claimed around 15 people attempted to lift the vehicle away from the building following the impact.

“It was awful,” she said, adding that she suspected the driver may have suffered a medical emergency because she could not understand how the car entered the building “at that speed”.

Photos from the scene showed the heavily damaged BMW lodged inside the storefront while police cordoned off the area.

Authorities are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with information regarding the crash to contact police as investigations continue.
