A domestic dispute is believed to have turned deadly after a Rohingya man was fatally stabbed at a house in Taman Belibis, Simpang Ampat, on Sunday afternoon.
The incident, which occurred at about 3.20pm, also left a 26-year-old woman injured. She was rushed to Hospital Seberang Jaya for further treatment.
South Seberang Perai District Police Chief Superintendent Jay January Siowou said the 31-year-old victim was found unconscious with multiple stab wounds on his body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest the attack may have stemmed from marital or family-related issues. However, police are continuing their investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case.
A 38-year-old man believed to be directly involved in the incident was detained after being apprehended by members of the public and handed over to police. Two other individuals have also been detained to assist in the investigation.
Police seized a knife believed to have been used in the stabbing, while forensic personnel conducted examinations at the scene and collected evidence. The victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Seberang Jaya for a post-mortem examination.
Investigators have also obtained CCTV footage from nearby areas, which is currently being analysed as part of efforts to determine the sequence of events leading to the fatal incident.
