A factory manufacturing transformers and equipment for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) was damaged in a fire at the Sungai Purun Industrial Area in Semenyih early Tuesday morning.
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said emergency services received a distress call at 4.29am, prompting firefighters from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames engulfing part of the factory, which measures approximately 18.6 by 9.3 metres.
“The fire had already spread to about 40 per cent of the premises and was actively burning when the first responders arrived,” he said in a statement.
Firefighters immediately launched efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further within the industrial facility.
The operation was supported by personnel from the Bangi and Kajang Fire and Rescue Stations.
According to Ahmad Mukhlis, firefighters deployed four hose lines stretching approximately 300 feet and used three nozzles to battle the flames. Water was sourced from nearby fire hydrants and a water tanker deployed to the location.
By 9.30am, firefighters had successfully extinguished about 90 per cent of the blaze, while overhaul and cooling operations continued to eliminate remaining hotspots.
A total of 18 firefighters were involved in the operation, supported by a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) from Semenyih, a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) from Kajang, as well as an FRT and water tanker from Bangi.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the fire, and investigations are expected to be carried out once the site is declared safe.
