Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed full confidence in Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) to spearhead Malaysia’s energy transition agenda while supporting the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure investments in the country.
Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, said Malaysia’s strategic location and competitive investment climate have strengthened its position as a leading destination in the global digital infrastructure race.
In a broader context, the growing convergence between energy systems and digital technologies is increasingly shaping national development strategies, particularly as countries compete to attract high-value data centre investments.
He noted that Malaysia continues to draw major data centre projects, especially in Johor and Sarawak, further reinforcing the country’s role in the regional digital economy.
“These developments raise the stakes, but I have full confidence in TNB’s ability to guide our energy transition and deliver on the promises of AI and energy,” he said at the launch of the Energy Transition Conference 2026 (ETCon26).
Also present were Deputy Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and TNB chairman Tan Sri Abdul Razak Abdul Majid.
Anwar also assured that Malaysia’s energy transition will remain just, secure and driven by artificial intelligence, in line with national interests.
He commended TNB for continuing to organise ETCon, describing it as an important platform for dialogue and collaboration on the country’s energy agenda.
The conference, held from June 3 to 5, 2026, brings together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and technology experts from more than 60 countries, with around 4,000 delegates participating.
Under the theme “Energy & AI: The Synergy for Energy Transition”, the event focuses on three key pillars: Energy for AI, AI for Energy and Energy Transition for People, reflecting the growing link between digital innovation and the global energy landscape.
