A 57-year-old woman was found dead at her home in Dukuh Sindon, Desa Sindon, Ngemplak District, Boyolali, Central Java, in a case suspected to be linked to food poisoning from chicken satay ordered through an online food delivery service.
In a broader context, the incident has raised concerns over food safety and trust in online delivery services, particularly when food is delivered from unverified sources.
The victim, identified as A, was discovered lifeless in her bedroom on the morning of May 19, 2026, after family members were unable to reach her and found her house in an unusual condition with lights still on since the previous night.
According to family information, the incident began on May 18, 2026, when the victim received a package of chicken satay delivered via an online motorcycle taxi service.
The food parcel was believed to have been sent by her son-in-law, who resides in Kartasura, Sukoharjo.
Family members said the victim had been warned by her children not to consume the food after concerns were raised about the identity of the sender.
However, she is believed to have kept or consumed the food before being found dead the following morning.
The discovery was made after her child, who usually visited daily, found the house unusually quiet and forced entry with the help of a neighbour.
The victim was found lying on her bed and was already deceased.
Authorities later noted several suspicious signs on the body, including bluish discoloration around the mouth, vomit stains on clothing, and foam near the mouth, raising early suspicion of poisoning.
Police have launched an investigation, including examining the food believed to be linked to the incident and the relationship between the victim and the alleged sender.
In a later development, authorities exhumed the victim’s grave for forensic examination and toxicology sampling to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are still ongoing, with officials awaiting laboratory results before confirming whether the case involves criminal elements or natural causes.
