A school bus was seized by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) after it was found allegedly misusing its licence by transporting foreign tourists during an enforcement operation yesterday.
The bus was stopped at a highway entry point after it was discovered carrying around 40 tourists from Thailand who were travelling towards Johor.
Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam said inspections revealed that the operator failed to produce a Temporary Change Permit (LPS), which is required for a school bus to be used for passenger or tourism purposes.
Following the violation, the vehicle was taken to the JPJ office in Alor Setar for further action, while all passengers were instructed to disembark at a bus terminal to continue their journey using alternative transport.
Authorities stressed that strict action will be taken against operators who misuse permits, as such offences compromise road safety and violate transport regulations.
