Immigration Dept Detains Large Group In Early-Morning Raid

Date:

The Immigration Department carried out a major enforcement operation early this morning, detaining a group of undocumented migrants in a sweep around Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur.

The operation, conducted following public complaints and intelligence gathering, targeted areas believed to have a high concentration of foreign nationals causing concern among residents.

Immigration officers executed coordinated raids at selected business premises and residential areas, sealing off escape routes to prevent suspects from fleeing.

Authorities said the surprise operation was designed to block all possible exits, with several individuals attempting to hide in confined spaces before being discovered by enforcement teams.

A total of 78 individuals were detained after failing to produce valid identification documents, with investigations revealing offences including overstaying and misuse of social visit passes for illegal employment. The group comprised nationals from Indonesia, Myanmar and India.

The detainees have been taken to the Immigration detention centre in Kuala Lumpur for documentation and further investigation under relevant immigration laws. Officials also warned that enforcement operations will continue with zero tolerance against illegal immigration and those who harbour or employ undocumented migrants.
