Nurse Succumbs to Injuries from Ipoh House Fire

Date:

A 25-year-old nurse, Malesa A/P Selvaraja, tragically lost her life after suffering severe burns in a house fire in Ipoh. She passed away at 8.44pm last night at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, just two days after the incident, due to critical airway injuries caused by inhaling thick smoke and extreme heat.

Hospital Pays Tribute

Marissa had been serving in the operating theatre of Pantai Hospital Ipoh for more than a year. In a heartfelt obituary posted on its official Facebook page, the hospital described her as a dedicated, kind, and passionate nurse, deeply respected by colleagues and fondly remembered by patients.

“Her passing has left us in deep sorrow. Marissa’s spirit and commitment will forever be cherished. In this difficult time, we extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. May she rest in peace,” the statement read.

The Tragedy

The fire broke out on August 25 at 10.39am along Persiaran Bercham Selatan in Taman Ipoh Timur. Flames engulfed a terraced house before rapidly spreading to adjoining units, with three houses damaged between 10% and 80%.

At the time, Marissa was asleep inside. In a panic, she was unable to find her house keys in time to escape, leaving her trapped in the blaze. She suffered extensive third-degree burns over most of her body.

Despite being rushed to the hospital for treatment, she succumbed to her injuries, leaving colleagues and patients mourning the loss of a nurse remembered for her kindness, dedication, and compassion.
