A woman was arrested after allegedly impersonating a police officer in an attempt to secure preferential treatment at a medical clinic in Pune, India.
The suspect, identified as Samina Ayub Pathan, was detained by officers from the Lashkar Police Station after her disguise raised suspicions during a routine patrol operation.
Authorities said the incident came to light over the weekend when police officers spotted the woman dressed in a full police uniform bearing the rank of sub-inspector.
According to a police spokesperson, officers approached Samina after noticing her suspicious behaviour. When questioned, she was unable to produce an official identification card or any documents proving that she was a legitimate member of the police force.
Investigators also said she failed to provide convincing answers regarding her identity, prompting further checks that eventually exposed the deception.
During questioning, Samina reportedly admitted that she had used her supposed status as a police officer in an effort to obtain an appointment and special treatment at a clinic.
Further inquiries revealed that she had once dreamed of joining the police force but was unsuccessful. She is currently employed by a private company.
Cases involving impersonation of law enforcement officers are treated seriously by authorities, as such actions can undermine public trust and potentially be used to gain unlawful advantages.
Police are now conducting further investigations to determine whether Samina may have been involved in any other fraudulent activities while posing as a police officer.
