A 29-year-old woman has been sentenced to two months’ jail and fined RM1,000 after admitting to filing a false police report in a bid to get her husband’s attention.
Miri police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said she pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 182 of the Penal Code at the Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
He said the accused had lodged a report claiming she was robbed on May 27, 2026, at around 10pm along the roadside near Miri Gospel Chapel Church in Pujut.
She alleged that four men in a four-wheel-drive vehicle had robbed her of jewellery, including a necklace, rings and bracelets, as well as RM350 in cash, with total losses estimated at RM3,130.
Following the report, police launched an investigation but discovered inconsistencies in her statement and found no witnesses to support the alleged robbery.
Mohd Farhan said the woman, a housewife from Limbang who frequently travels to Miri to send off her offshore-working husband, later admitted that the report was fabricated.
She confessed that she had made up the story to gain her husband’s attention, suspecting him of having an affair with another woman.
Investigations later led police to recover all the allegedly stolen items, which were found hidden in the boot of her vehicle.
He stressed that strict action will continue to be taken against individuals who deliberately lodge false police reports, as such acts waste police resources and may hinder genuine criminal investigations.
