Thirteen men arrested in connection with a violent brawl outside a nightclub in Kepong earlier this year are set to be charged in court today.
Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni said the suspects will face charges under Sections 326 and 148 of the Penal Code.
The charges relate to causing grievous hurt using weapons and participating in a riot, offences which carry severe penalties under Malaysian law.
Under Section 326 of the Penal Code, those convicted may face a prison sentence of up to 20 years. Meanwhile, Section 148 provides for a jail term of up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Police investigations found that the incident, which took place outside a nightclub in April, is believed to have started as a verbal dispute before escalating into a violent confrontation.
The argument reportedly spiralled out of control, resulting in a physical clash involving multiple individuals and attracting widespread attention.
Violent incidents outside entertainment outlets continue to raise concerns among authorities, particularly when weapons are allegedly involved and public safety is put at risk.
The arrests were made following police investigations into the incident, with authorities gathering evidence and witness statements before proceeding with charges.
The case is expected to be mentioned in court today, where the suspects will formally face the allegations brought against them.
Police have urged members of the public to avoid resorting to violence when resolving disputes and to allow legal channels to handle conflicts.
Further details are expected to emerge once court proceedings begin.
