Johor Political Tension Rises As Puad Plans Major Disclosure

Date:

Johor State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi has hinted at a major announcement set to be made on 27 June, following recent developments surrounding the selection of Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates for the upcoming Johor state election.

In a Facebook posting, he claimed that certain matters within UMNO Johor appeared “not right” after reviewing the list of candidates expected to be announced by BN.

He further stated that he would make a significant disclosure on 27 June 2026, expressing concern over the current direction of UMNO Johor.

“Today BN Johor will announce the list of candidates for the Johor PRN 2026. From the list, there are things that are not right for UMNO Johor,” he said.

Puad added that he would proceed with his planned announcement regardless of the consequences, describing it as part of his political stance.

“I will make an important announcement on 27 June 2026. The latest developments in UMNO Johor are worrying. I will not look back even though I am just a small individual,” he wrote.

He also recalled that six days earlier he had announced his decision not to defend the Rengit state seat, citing age and his intention to allow younger, trained leaders to take over.

Puad stressed that young, educated leaders should be given opportunities, although he claimed this view had not been fully considered.

BN is expected to unveil its full candidate list for the Johor state election at the UMNO Johor headquarters at 2.30pm today.
