Cashier Fined RM5,000 For Recording Sister-In-Law In Toilet

Date:

A 29-year-old cashier was fined RM5,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to secretly recording his sister-in-law inside a toilet at their workplace using a pen-shaped recording device last week.

The accused entered his plea after the charge was read before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.

According to the charge, the man allegedly acted with intent to insult the modesty of a 30-year-old woman by recording her without consent while she was inside the toilet at a mini market in Kampung Kor, Batu 8, Jalan Kuala Krai at about 1pm on June 19, 2026.

The offence falls under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to five years, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Muhammad Nadzir Abdullah urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence, stating that the act had caused embarrassment and distress to the victim.

Defence counsel Roshayati Hassan, representing the accused through the National Legal Aid Foundation, requested a minimum fine, noting that the accused earned about RM1,200 per month and had shown remorse.

The court subsequently imposed a RM5,000 fine, with a nine-month jail term in default of payment. The accused paid the fine.

Facts of the case revealed that the incident came to light when the mini market owner discovered a pen-shaped recording device in the toilet. Upon reviewing its contents, he identified the accused as the person who placed it.

Further inspection revealed recordings of the victim inside the toilet, which were later deleted after discovery.
