Authorities Investigate Sexual Assault Claims After Girl’s Body Discovered In Bueng Kan

Date:

Authorities in Thailand are investigating a suspected homicide after a young girl’s body was discovered in a forest area in Seka district, Bueng Kan province, on June 24.

Police from Seka Police Station were alerted at about 11am after the child was found lying in a forest near a residential area. Officers immediately secured the scene and began initial investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The victim was found lying face up, with her lower body exposed, while a pair of black sweatpants was discovered nearby. Her remains were later sent to Srinagarind Hospital in Khon Kaen for a detailed post-mortem examination.

Investigators said early findings raised suspicions of sexual assault and homicide, with initial theories suggesting the victim may have been strangled using her own clothing. Authorities have not ruled out foul play as they continue probing the case.

The discovery was made by the girl’s mother, 31-year-old Phetcharee, who had been collecting mushrooms in the forest when she came across the body. She later realised the victim was her daughter after alerting nearby residents and checking more closely.

Phetcharee told police she last saw her daughter at around 9am on June 23. The following day, she unknowingly found her remains while foraging in the same forested area.

The girl’s family members provided statements to police, including her stepfather, who said he was unable to identify any suspicious individuals as he had only recently moved into the area. He also described the victim as a cheerful child who showed no unusual behaviour prior to her death.

It was also revealed that the victim had been dropped off near a school area the night before the incident after arrangements were made by a relative. However, conflicting accounts regarding her movements prior to her disappearance are now part of the ongoing investigation.

Her aunt confirmed that she had asked her husband to assist in transporting the girl to a nearby location due to personal commitments. She also stated that her husband returned shortly after and had indicated the girl would be safely sent home.

Police said the husband has yet to provide a statement as he was reportedly away working at a rubber plantation at the time. Authorities are continuing to track down individuals believed to be relevant to the case.

Bueng Kan Provincial Police, together with Seka Police Station, are jointly investigating the incident, with multiple witnesses expected to be called in as the inquiry progresses.
