Parti Cinta Malaysia, now operating under the new name Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan), has confirmed that it will not be contesting in the upcoming Johor state election.
Party president Hamzah Zainudin said instead that the party will focus its electoral efforts on the Negeri Sembilan state election, signalling a strategic shift in its political direction.
He clarified that although Wawasan is not fielding candidates in Johor, the party still maintains its political stance and will extend support to selected candidates in the state.
“Not contesting in Johor does not mean we do not support any candidate. We will support certain candidates,” he was quoted as saying by Sinar Harian.
Hamzah, who also serves as the opposition leader, added that details on which candidates will receive the party’s backing will be announced after the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council convenes in the near future.
Wawasan, alongside Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang), was recently accepted into the Perikatan Nasional coalition earlier this week, strengthening the bloc’s political alignment ahead of the state elections.
PN election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor previously stated that Pejuang will contest only one seat in Johor, namely Bukit Gambir.
He also noted that Wawasan did not submit any application to participate in the Johor state election.
The Election Commission has set July 11 as polling day for Johor, while Negeri Sembilan will go to the polls on August 1 for the 16th state elections.
