A man in Bau was left RM200 poorer after falling victim to a blackmail scam following an attempt to cancel an alleged online sexual service.
Bau district police chief Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman said the incident occurred on Tuesday night after the victim came across an advertisement on Facebook promoting sexual services under the username ‘Safiqah’.
The victim reportedly made contact via WhatsApp but later decided to cancel the arrangement after being told the fee was too high. However, the situation took a turn when the suspect allegedly threatened to circulate the victim’s photos on Facebook and falsely claimed he had subscribed to the service.
Fearing exposure, the victim proceeded to transfer RM200 to a local bank account as demanded. Police confirmed that, so far, the victim’s images have not been shared by the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code for extortion, while authorities are tracking the suspect using the phone number and bank account details provided.
