PGA Seizes 70 Logs And Lorry Worth RM107,000 In Pasir Mas Operation

Date:

The General Operations Force (PGA) seized 70 logs and a lorry worth an estimated RM107,000 during an operation in Kampung Repek, Pasir Mas, yesterday.

Briged Tenggara PGA Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Radzi Hussain said the seizure was made under Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan by the Strike Force unit of Company B, 8th Battalion PGA Pengkalan Chepa, with assistance from the Tanah Merah District Forestry Department.

He said that during the 6.45pm operation, officers stopped a green Hino lorry after it was spotted acting suspiciously during a routine patrol in the area.

Inspection of the vehicle’s cargo area revealed 70 logs believed to have been transported without valid permits or authorisation from the relevant authorities.

The 21-year-old driver failed to produce any documentation for the timber transportation when requested by officers.

Preliminary investigations found that the suspect claimed the logs were taken from a plantation area in Kampung Tok Rusa, Meranti, and were being delivered to a sawmill in Pusu 40, Pasir Mas for a payment of RM40 per trip.

Another local man was also detained to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 84 of the National Forestry Act 1984, and all seized items have been handed over to the Tanah Merah District Forestry Department for further action.
