PAS Confirms Solo Campaign Strategy, No Assistance For Bersatu In Johor Polls

Date:

PAS has confirmed that it will focus solely on its own election campaign machinery and will not be assisting its coalition partner, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), in the upcoming Johor state election.

Party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the decision stands firmly, adding that the use of the Perikatan Nasional (Perikatan Nasional) logo by both parties was agreed under certain circumstances, although internal dynamics have shifted ahead of the polls.

He stressed that PAS campaign efforts will remain independently focused on its own candidates, noting that there will be no crossover assistance for Bersatu candidates during the election period. He also indicated that each party is responsible for its own electoral strategy moving forward.

In a broader political context, coalition arrangements in multi-party contests often face coordination challenges, particularly when parties contest different seat allocations while still operating under a shared banner. Observers note that such situations can test unity and voter clarity during closely fought elections.

Abdul Hadi also remarked that discussions with Bersatu regarding their working relationship have effectively concluded, reiterating that PAS will continue based on its own direction and priorities as previously decided.

Despite the separation in campaign efforts, PAS remains committed to contesting 11 state seats in Johor, which the party believes have strong winning potential. Abdul Hadi expressed confidence that all selected constituencies were chosen based on detailed assessments and favourable ground support.

Political analysts generally view seat negotiations and campaign independence as part of broader electoral strategy adjustments, especially in competitive states like Johor where multiple coalitions are expected to vie for control in tightly contested races.
