PAS Avoids Extending Seat Talks With UMNO, Focuses On Johor Election Strategy

Date:

PAS has downplayed ongoing speculation over seat negotiations with UMNO for the Johor state election, saying the party is focused instead on preparing for the political challenges ahead.

Perikatan Nasional (Perikatan Nasional) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said discussions involving seat allocations had already taken place with various parties, and there was no need to prolong the matter.

He stressed that attention should now be directed towards future strategies rather than revisiting past negotiations, adding that the current political landscape demands forward planning and stronger mobilisation efforts.

In political contexts, coalition talks are often fluid and complex, with outcomes that may shift depending on timing, strategy and ground realities. Leaders typically reassess priorities as election momentum builds.

When asked whether the discussions with UMNO Johor had failed, Ahmad Samsuri rejected the notion, saying political processes should not be viewed in terms of success or failure, as each outcome may bring different advantages in the long run.

He also responded to speculation about potential defections, saying PAS remains open to individuals from other parties who wish to join, reiterating that its doors are always open to new members.

The remarks were made during the PAS–PN candidate announcement event for the Johor state election, where the party unveiled its strategy moving forward.
