Amira Aisya Questions Timing Of RM216 Million Johor Allocation

Date:

Amira Aisya Abdul Aziz, president of Muda, has questioned the timing of a RM216.44 million allocation announced for housing development and community welfare in Johor, saying it raises concerns over politically timed announcements ahead of the state election.

The former Puteri Wangsa assemblywoman said while she is not opposed to development funding, she questioned why such announcements are made close to election periods, suggesting voters are able to distinguish between genuine policy and election-related incentives.

She made the remarks in a social media post, where she also criticised the recurring pattern of similar announcements during previous by-elections, including in Kuala Kubu Baharu and Sungai Bakap.

In political practice, large-scale funding announcements made during sensitive electoral periods often attract scrutiny, as they may be perceived as influencing voter sentiment ahead of polling day.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming had earlier announced the RM216.44 million allocation under the 13th Malaysia Plan to support housing projects, public amenities and community welfare initiatives in Johor.

The funding package includes affordable housing development, maintenance works, public facilities upgrades, community safety measures, solid waste management, and broader urban and rural development efforts.

The Johor state election is scheduled for July 11, with nomination day set for June 27 and early voting on July 7.
