A mother in Nakhon Ratchasima has lodged a child abuse report against her husband after their two-year-old daughter was admitted to hospital with extensive bruising, allegedly caused by repeated physical assaults while she was at work.
Police have since taken the father into custody, with the suspect also referred for drug testing as part of the ongoing investigation.
The mother, identified as 30-year-old Siwaporn, filed the report at Si Khio Police Station on June 25 after her husband, Sutthinai, visited her workplace and informed her that their daughter had been hospitalised. It was during this encounter that he reportedly admitted to harming the child.
Upon arriving at Si Khio Hospital, she said she was shocked by the severity of the injuries. Neighbours later told her the abuse had allegedly been ongoing, including claims that the child’s head had been submerged in water on multiple occasions.
Siwaporn believes her husband’s actions were linked to drug use, telling authorities that the violent behaviour tended to occur after he had taken narcotics. She has urged police to keep him in custody, citing fears that he may repeat the offence if released.
The child’s 60-year-old maternal grandmother, who cares for the girl during the day, said the toddler is still receiving treatment, showing symptoms including bruising, vomiting and distress around other people.
She also claimed she had previously witnessed the father submerging the child’s head in water and had intervened before contacting police.
Following the report, the grandmother further alleged that individuals linked to the suspect’s drug network had threatened the family, prompting calls for urgent police protection.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing, with officers continuing to gather evidence and record statements from those involved.
