MCMC Forms Special Team To Combat Fake News During Johor Polls

Date:

Pakatan Harapan (PH) will strengthen its Johor state election campaign by combining grassroots outreach with an aggressive social media strategy as the official campaign period begins on Saturday.

PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the approach is aimed at ensuring the coalition’s messages, policies and election pledges reach voters effectively across all segments of society.

He said PKR, which will contest 20 state seats in the election, will immediately begin its campaign efforts once the nomination process concludes on Saturday morning.

“I will be in Semerah tomorrow morning, while PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar will accompany Senggarang candidate Onn Abu Bakar at the nomination centre,” he told reporters after the Hasrat Madani programme on Friday.

Fahmi, who is also the Communications Minister, said PH has also established an official media group to facilitate the rapid dissemination of information involving its candidates throughout the campaign period.

He added that the coalition will place strong emphasis on sharing verified information to ensure voters receive accurate facts and are not misled during the election campaign.

Highlighting PH’s track record, Fahmi said close cooperation between the Federal Government and state administrations has enabled the implementation of major development projects in Johor.

Among the examples cited were the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which he said would boost the economy while narrowing development gaps across the state.

Fahmi expressed confidence that PH could deliver similar progress in Johor, pointing to experienced candidates such as Dr Maszlee Malik in Puteri Wangsa and Onn Abu Bakar in Senggarang.

He also confirmed that PH will unveil its Johor election manifesto in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Fahmi said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has formed a special task force together with the Election Commission (EC), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Media Council to monitor and combat the spread of fake news throughout the state election campaign.
