Two Malaysians were injured after the Proton X50 sport utility vehicle (SUV) they were travelling in was struck by a bomb blast in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat province, southern Thailand, on Monday.
The explosion is believed to have occurred at about 11.41am local time near Mukim Phrai Wan in Tak Bai district.
Authorities said the two male victims sustained injuries in the blast and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Images circulating online showed the Proton X50 heavily damaged following the explosion.
Thai authorities have since secured the area and launched investigations into the incident. The road has been completely closed from the Sapom Junction to Kampung Saba Baharu in Tak Bai district to allow the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit and forensic teams to conduct detailed examinations at the scene.
Meanwhile, Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that Malaysian authorities had received reports regarding the incident.
He also advised Malaysians to postpone non-essential travel to Thailand until further notice.
Investigations into the cause of the explosion are ongoing, while authorities continue to monitor the security situation in the affected area.
