A modified Honda C70 motorcycle fitted with an Android media player and speaker system was seized during an operation by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) at Kilometer 1, Jalan Tun Razak, yesterday.
Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam said the motorcycle, ridden by a 25-year-old man, was stopped by enforcement officers at about 8pm.
He said inspections found that the vehicle’s Motor Vehicle Licence (road tax) had expired since 2016 and it was also without valid insurance coverage.
Further checks revealed multiple illegal modifications, including the installation of a 10-inch Android screen typically used in cars, speakers, yellow fog lamps and a digital meter.
Authorities also discovered that the motorcycle remained registered under the name of a deceased owner.
The rider claimed he had not renewed the road tax and insurance because the registered owner had passed away and the estate settlement through Amanah Raya had not been completed.
JPJ Kedah issued three summonses against the man for expired road tax, no insurance coverage and illegal vehicle modifications.
The motorcycle was also seized under existing legal provisions to ensure only compliant vehicles are allowed on the road.
JPJ reminded the public to ensure timely renewal of road tax and insurance, update vehicle ownership records, and obtain approval before carrying out any modifications.
Failure to comply, it said, could result not only in enforcement action but also leave owners liable for financial losses and compensation in the event of accidents.
