Four Boys Sent To Special School After Setting Dog On Fire

Date:

A shocking case of alleged animal cruelty involving four boys under the age of 14 has sparked widespread anger across China after videos showing the abuse of dogs circulated online.

According to Chinese media reports, the incident took place in Jieyang, Guangdong Province, where the boys were allegedly filmed laughing while pouring petrol over a female dog before setting it on fire. The videos also allegedly showed puppies being beaten to death with sticks, prompting a wave of condemnation on social media.

Local residents claimed the disturbing footage first spread through community chat groups in Jieyang before gaining wider attention online. Many described the scenes as extremely cruel and called for tougher action against those responsible.

In a statement issued on 30 June, the Xinheng Town People’s Government in the Jiedong District of Jieyang confirmed that all four boys had been sent to a special educational institution. Authorities said the local education department had instructed schools to strengthen moral and behavioural education, while the parents of those involved had been ordered to fulfil their responsibilities as guardians.

The town government also appealed to the public not to continue sharing the videos or photographs of the incident, citing concerns over the spread of graphic content.

The case has triggered intense debate online, with many netizens condemning the boys’ alleged actions and describing the abuse as “heartless” and “cruel”. Others questioned whether being under the age of criminal responsibility should shield minors from stricter consequences, with some calling for stronger educational interventions and more effective measures to address serious acts of animal abuse.
