A total of 135 individuals, including 121 lorry drivers, were arrested after testing positive for drugs in a nationwide integrated operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT).
The operation also involved the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK), carried out across the country from April to June.
Bukit Aman JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohammed Hasbullah Ali said 44 joint operations were conducted during the period, involving 627 enforcement personnel.
He said a total of 713 urine screening tests were carried out, resulting in the arrest of 135 individuals, including 121 lorry drivers and 14 others.
He added that nearly 90 per cent of those detained were commercial vehicle drivers.
The operation focused on drivers of trailers, lorries, express buses, worker buses, school buses, and vehicles carrying hazardous materials.
Checks were also carried out on licences, permits, and company documents to ensure only qualified, competent, and drug-free drivers are allowed on the road.
Mohammed Hasbullah said drug use among commercial vehicle drivers is a serious concern as it can impair focus, judgement, and vehicle control, increasing the risk of fatal accidents.
He said out of those arrested, 27 individuals were charged under Section 31 of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
In addition, three were charged under Section 12(2), 101 under Section 15(1), three under Section 39A, and one under Section 6 of the same Act.
