A total of 195 individuals, including an SPM candidate, tested positive for drugs and were detained during a three-day operation conducted by the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) in Seremban, Jempol, Tampin and Port Dickson yesterday.
AADK deputy director-general (Operations) Zainudin Abdullah said the enforcement operation, known as Ops Perdana, began on June 29 and involved 72 personnel from the Negeri Sembilan branch.
He said among those detained was a 17-year-old student, who was arrested together with his brother in his 20s after both tested positive for ketum at their home in Seremban, following intelligence gathered by the agency.
The student reportedly told investigators that he consumed ketum to stay awake while studying late at night.
Zainudin also revealed that a married couple, aged 45 and 44, were detained after testing positive for methamphetamine and ketum, with their two children aged 10 and four found at the premises.
He said the children, who were discovered in a house without electricity, have since been referred to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) for further action.
In a separate case, a 44-year-old woman in Jempol was detained after testing positive for syabu while at home with her 15-month-old daughter.
Investigations revealed that her husband and eldest child were already being held at the Jempol police headquarters in connection with drug possession under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
The operation also led to the arrest of a Rohingya man in his 40s after he was found in possession of 2.62 grammes of suspected morphine.
Four foreign nationals from Indonesia and Myanmar were also detained and handed over to police for further investigation under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while eight men aged between 19 and 40 were arrested at a suspected drug den in Felda Palong 12 and 13, Jempol.
Zainudin said AADK also tracked down and arrested 39 individuals who had failed to appear in court after being released on bail.
