Pas Urges Johor Youth To Back PN Candidates And Stop PH In State Election

Date:

Pas has called on Johor voters, particularly young people, to turn out in large numbers for the upcoming Johor State Election (PRN) and support Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates, especially in the 11 state seats contested by the party.

Pas Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the election marks an important moment for young Malaysians, as it is among the first state polls to fully reflect the impact of the Undi18 initiative, giving more first-time and younger voters the opportunity to shape Johor’s political future.

In a video posted on Facebook on Thursday, Tuan Ibrahim encouraged young voters to fulfil their civic responsibility by backing PN candidates in the constituencies where the coalition is contesting.

He also reiterated Pas’ earlier position that PN supporters in the 23 constituencies where the coalition is not fielding candidates should instead support Barisan Nasional (BN) candidates to prevent Pakatan Harapan (PH) from securing victory in the state election.

“If PN supporters are prepared to vote for BN in the 23 seats we are not contesting, then we hope supporters from other parties will also back Pas in the 11 constituencies we are contesting as PN’s representative,” he said.

According to Tuan Ibrahim, Pas representatives elected to the Johor State Legislative Assembly would serve as an effective system of checks and balances while strengthening the voice of the opposition. He added that preventing PH from winning the election remains a key objective.

He also urged voters to carefully evaluate every candidate’s integrity, character and track record of serving the people before casting their ballots, saying Pas candidates had gone through a thorough selection process before being chosen to represent the party.

Tuan Ibrahim further appealed to Johoreans living and working outside the state to return home to vote, stressing that every ballot could influence the outcome of the election.

The Johor state election will see Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) each contesting all 56 state seats, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) is fielding 33 candidates, Bersama 15, MUDA four, the Malaysian Orang Asli Party (Asli) one, the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) one, alongside six independent candidates. Pas itself is contesting 11 state seats, which the party says were selected based on its assessment of the coalition’s strongest chances of victory.

Polling day is scheduled for 11 July, with early voting on 7 July.
