‘I Even Thought About Taking My Own Life,’ Claims Live Host After Alleged Cyberbullying Campaign

Date:

A 30-year-old online livestream host has claimed she fell into depression and even contemplated taking her own life after allegedly becoming the target of an intense cyberbullying campaign and personal attacks by two local men involved in the same industry.

The woman, identified only as Ah Ling, said the alleged harassment began around eight days ago and believes the attacks were carried out to attract more viewers and increase the men’s social media following.

According to Ah Ling, the two men allegedly threatened to assault and kill her, while also spreading what they claimed were her “nude photographs”. She further alleged that they circulated numerous defamatory claims, including accusations that she had an affair with a married man, lived an immoral lifestyle and owed money to illegal loan sharks.

“I lost my appetite, struggled to sleep and became depressed. At one point, I even thought about taking my own life because of the pressure,” she said when contacted.

Ah Ling explained that several months earlier she had collaborated with one of the men during livestream sessions selling seafood and herbal products. However, their relationship reportedly deteriorated after he accused her of undercutting market prices, allegedly threatening to “teach her a lesson” and making threats to assault and kill her.

She also claimed the man and his wife spread rumours that she had been involved in an extramarital affair and had behaved intimately with a married man at a nightclub. They allegedly accused her of borrowing money from loan sharks in Muar, Johor, in 2023 and claimed she was heavily in debt.

In addition, Ah Ling alleged the pair accused her of stealing other people’s information and falsely claimed to possess explicit photographs and private videos of her. She insisted the woman shown in the alleged nude images was merely someone who resembled her and that no such private video of her exists, describing the material as misleading screenshots used to tarnish her reputation.

She believes the allegations were deliberately fabricated to humiliate her publicly and generate online attention. According to Ah Ling, many social media users accepted the claims as true, resulting in her family members also being ridiculed in public.

The alleged harassment forced her to stop livestreaming for the past seven days, causing an estimated RM70,000 loss in income.

Ah Ling also claimed that another individual involved was her former employer. She said they had worked together for about two years, with the man serving as the main livestream host while she worked as his assistant. After she started her own business, the pair collaborated again before a dispute arose over payments and operating costs.

She denied allegations that she owed him RM30,000, claiming instead that he still owed her RM30,650 in unpaid commissions.

Believing the repeated attacks were intended to damage her reputation and boost the alleged perpetrators’ online popularity, Ah Ling has lodged a police report at the Cheras Police Station and hopes appropriate action will be taken.
