Thai Police Arrest Man Linked To Tak Bai Bomb Blast That Injured Two Malaysians

Date:

Thai authorities have arrested a 40-year-old man believed to be connected to the bomb explosion in Tak Bai, Narathiwat, that injured two Malaysians earlier this week.

According to a source quoted by Utusan Malaysia, the suspect was detained at a house in Tak Bai at around 3.40pm on Thursday during a joint security operation carried out by Thai enforcement agencies.

The arrest reportedly led investigators to seize several suspicious items, including equipment believed to be linked to the investigation, 10 wristwatches, and a large quantity of motorcycle exhaust pipe fragments.

The incident occurred at approximately 11.40am on Monday, when two Malaysians were travelling in a Proton X50 near the Sapom junction in Tak Bai. An improvised explosive device (IED) concealed inside a roadside culvert exploded as the vehicle passed the area.

Thai authorities previously said the two Malaysians were not the intended targets of the attack, which is believed to have been carried out by suspected insurgents operating in Thailand’s southern border region.

Both victims received medical treatment at Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra Hospital before returning safely to Malaysia.

Investigations into the bombing are continuing as Thai security forces work to identify and apprehend any other individuals believed to be involved.
