New 10-Year Malaysian Passport Offers Better Value For Adults, Says Immigration Department

Date:

Malaysia’s newly introduced 10-year International Passport is expected to provide greater savings for adults aged 18 to 59, with the new option costing RM350 compared to RM200 for a five-year passport.

Under the revised passport fees, which came into effect on 1 July, eligible applicants who choose the 10-year validity will save RM50 compared with renewing a five-year passport twice over the same period.

According to an infographic released by the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM), adults aged 18 to 59 can now choose between a five-year passport for RM200 or a 10-year passport for RM350.

Senior citizens aged 60 and above are also eligible for the extended validity, with fees set at RM100 for a five-year passport and RM175 for a 10-year passport.

However, the 10-year passport is not available to all applicants. Teenagers aged 13 to 17, children under 12, students aged 21 and below pursuing undergraduate studies overseas, and Hajj pilgrims remain eligible only for the five-year passport, which costs RM100.

The department also announced special provisions for persons with disabilities (PwD). PwD cardholders aged 18 and below are entitled to a free five-year passport, while those aged over 18 qualify for a free 10-year passport.

JIM also reminded the public that replacement passport fees vary depending on the passport’s validity period, the applicant’s category and the number of previous replacements.

For five-year passports, replacement fees for applicants aged 18 to 59 and 13 to 17 are RM400 for the first replacement, RM700 for the second, and RM1,200 for the third and subsequent replacements.

For children under 12, senior citizens, undergraduate students studying overseas and Hajj pilgrims, replacement fees for five-year passports are RM300 for the first replacement, RM600 for the second and RM1,100 from the third replacement onwards.

Meanwhile, replacement fees for a 10-year passport are RM550 for the first replacement, RM850 for the second and RM1,350 for the third and subsequent replacements for applicants aged 18 to 59.

For senior citizens holding a 10-year passport, the replacement fees are RM375 for the first replacement, RM675 for the second and RM1,175 for the third and subsequent replacements.

The Immigration Department has advised Malaysians to check their eligibility and fee category carefully before submitting an application to ensure they choose the most suitable passport validity period.
