PKR Youth Leader Urges Chinese Voters Not To Back Bersama In Johor Polls

Date:

The head of the Tebrau PKR youth wing has urged the Chinese community in Johor not to support Parti Bersama Malaysia’s candidates in the upcoming state election, warning that such a move could split Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) vote base.

Jalex Lee, who is also PH’s candidate for Pemanis, said Bersama—led by two former PKR leaders—appears to be targeting Chinese voters by raising community-specific issues, according to Utusan Malaysia.

He said PH’s priority is to form the state government in Johor in order to ensure alignment with the federal administration and deliver benefits to all residents.

Lee, however, did not detail the specific concerns affecting the Chinese community. Bersama candidate for Perling, Boo Wei Han, had previously raised issues related to pig farming, which has been a sensitive topic following discussions in Selangor over a potential ban.

Chinese voters are estimated to make up 36.7% of the electorate in Johor, making them a significant voting bloc in the state election.

Pakatan Harapan is contesting all 56 seats in the state polls, while Parti Bersama Malaysia has fielded 15 candidates ahead of the July 11 election.
