Serian House Fire Claims Woman’s Life, Mother Sustains Burns

A 37-year-old woman was killed in a house fire that broke out at Kampung Tubih Batu Raung, Serian, shortly after midnight on Saturday.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed in a statement that the victim, identified as Nurul Farhana Amerudin, was found burned to death inside the bathroom of the destroyed home.

According to the department, emergency services received a distress call at 12.29am before firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene to deal with the blaze.

The fire involved a single-storey permanent house measuring approximately 48 by 70 feet, which was completely razed to the ground despite firefighting efforts.

Authorities said the operation was successfully brought under control, with the fire fully extinguished and response efforts concluding at around 3.45am.

With assistance from police and a Ministry of Health (MOH) medical officer, firefighters recovered the victim’s remains before handing them over to authorities for further investigation. The cause of the fire and total losses are still being determined.

In the same incident, the victim’s 65-year-old mother sustained second-degree burns and was transported to Serian Hospital by members of the public for treatment prior to the arrival of emergency responders.
