Tengku Zafrul Denies Receiving Funds From Jana Wibawa Companies

Date:

Former Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz told the High Court that he never received any personal financial benefit or donations from companies involved in the Jana Wibawa programme.

In his witness statement, Tengku Zafrul said he was also unaware of any political contributions allegedly made by companies participating in the programme to Bersatu.

He testified that former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had never informed him that companies proposed for Jana Wibawa projects had channelled funds to the political party.

“I never received any contribution from the 54 companies listed in the letter proposed by Muhyiddin for the programme,” he said.

“I also have no knowledge whether these companies had made contributions to any political party.”

Tengku Zafrul is testifying in Muhyiddin’s trial, which involves seven charges, comprising four counts of abuse of power and three counts of money laundering linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

He further told the court that he had no interest in any of the companies proposed under the programme and had never received any form of financial gratification from them.

Tengku Zafrul also said Muhyiddin had never disclosed to him that Bersatu had allegedly received political donations from companies named in the proposal submitted to the Finance Ministry.

Muhyiddin is facing four charges of abusing his position to allegedly secure RM232.5 million for Bersatu, as well as three charges of money laundering involving RM200 million. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
