Nine individuals, including a woman, have been remanded for seven days to assist in the investigation of a case where the body of a woman was found in a car alongside a man who reportedly stabbed and shot a police officer before fleeing in Simpang Pulai early yesterday morning.
The remand order, effective from today until Sunday, was issued by Magistrate Anis Hanini Abdullah when the nine suspects were brought to the Magistrate’s Court for the remand application.
The female suspect is remanded under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, while the eight male suspects are held under Section 307 for attempted murder.
Earlier, the nine suspects were seen entering the Magistrate’s Court at around 10:30 a.m. and were brought out in handcuffs by police officers about half an hour later.
According to media reports, police had previously detained six individuals to assist with the investigation after a 26-year-old police constable was injured, allegedly shot by a man driving an MPV, while the body of an elderly woman was discovered in the back passenger seat.
The six detainees, all related, included five men and one woman. The victim, a 62-year-old local woman, was confirmed dead due to suffocation or lack of oxygen.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 a.m., when the police constable tried to stop the suspicious vehicle at Taman Desa Pakatan. The suspect reportedly stabbed and shot the officer, then fled with a pistol taken from the constable, leaving the car and the woman’s body behind.
