Banting School Stabbing: Suspect Is Autistic, Lawyer Confirms As Teen Remanded For Four Days

Date:

The 15-year-old girl arrested over the stabbing of a fellow student at a secondary school in Banting has been identified as a person with disabilities (OKU), with her lawyer confirming that she is autistic.

“My client is autistic. That is all I can say,” said S Vijeswari Devi, a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), when approached by reporters following court proceedings on Tuesday.

Earlier, the teenage suspect was remanded for four days beginning Tuesday after Magistrate Maslinda Selamat granted a police application at the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court to facilitate investigations into the case.

Kuala Langat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed the remand order, adding that investigations are ongoing.

The court compound drew significant media attention, with around 20 journalists gathering from as early as 8.30am to follow developments in the high-profile case. However, the suspect was not seen by members of the media, having reportedly been brought into the court complex in a police vehicle at about 8.10am before leaving shortly after 9am.

The incident occurred at around 9.30am on Monday, when a 15-year-old Form Three student was allegedly stabbed multiple times while at school. The victim sustained injuries to several parts of her body and was rushed to Hospital Banting for further treatment.

Police believe the suspect entered the school canteen through a route near the school’s surau before the attack took place. It is understood that the suspect, who was wearing a black T-shirt at the time of her court appearance, had not attended school for several months and had been receiving medical treatment.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar previously confirmed that the teenager had been arrested to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
