A husband and wife were killed after the Proton Persona they were travelling in collided with a Toyota Hilux near the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Benta on Tuesday morning.
The victims were identified as Mohd Khair Zainudin, 55, and his wife, Norzaili Khalil, 49. Both died as a result of the collision, which occurred on a road near the JPJ office.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Salahuddin Isa said emergency responders received a distress call before a team from the Kuala Lipis Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 6.32am.
Upon arrival, firefighters found one of the victims lying outside the Proton Persona and confirmed dead at the scene. The second victim was trapped inside the badly damaged vehicle and was later pronounced dead after rescue personnel carried out an extrication operation using specialised rescue equipment.
The two occupants travelling in the Toyota Hilux sustained injuries and had already been taken to hospital for treatment before firefighters reached the location.
Officials from the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed the deaths at the scene before the victims’ bodies were handed over to the police for further investigation.
Authorities have yet to disclose the cause of the crash, and investigations into the fatal accident are ongoing.
