Motorcyclist Killed After Car Loses Control And Bursts Bike Into Flames

Date:

A 47-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a horrific road accident after his motorcycle was struck by a car that allegedly lost control along Jalan Kota Kinabalu-Papar, near Kilometre 17, in the early hours of Monday.

The crash occurred at around 3.30am when a car driven by a 22-year-old local man, travelling from Kota Kinabalu towards Papar, is believed to have veered out of control before crashing into the motorcycle.

Acting Penampang District Police Chief Assistant Superintendent Arisanti Aziz said the impact dragged the motorcycle along the road before it caught fire. The rider was thrown from his bike and suffered severe injuries in the collision.

A medical officer who arrived at the scene confirmed the victim’s death. His body has since been sent for a post-mortem examination.

Police have detained the 22-year-old driver to assist with investigations into the fatal crash.

Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact the investigating officer, Inspector Saparia Ladoni, at 019-8095133 to assist with the investigation.

Arisanti also urged members of the public not to circulate photographs of the accident scene on social media out of respect for the victim’s family during this difficult time.
