Banting School Stabbing: Father Says Victim Is Traumatised, Can’t Stop Crying

Date:

The father of the 15-year-old girl who was stabbed at a secondary school in Banting says his daughter remains traumatised by the attack, although her condition has continued to improve following emergency surgery.

Speaking to reporters at Hospital Banting on Tuesday, Mohd Firuz Ibrahim, 43, said his daughter has become more stable but is still under close observation by doctors and nurses.

“My daughter is still traumatised. She can’t stop crying,” he said, adding that she told him the pain had eased compared with the previous day.

Mohd Firuz explained that a drainage tube remains inserted in his daughter’s lung and is expected to stay in place for another two to three days while doctors monitor her condition. The tube will only be removed once the bleeding has completely stopped.

He said the teenager was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after undergoing surgery on Monday before being transferred to a general ward later that night, about four hours after leaving the operating theatre.

The father added that his daughter has started talking again and is now able to drink fluids and eat light meals. However, doctors expect she will remain in hospital for at least a week, depending on her recovery.

“As a father, it breaks my heart to see my daughter like this. We’ve never even hit her, so seeing her suffer from stab wounds is incredibly painful. But what has happened has happened, and we accept it with faith,” he said.

The incident occurred at around 9.30am on Monday, when the Form Three student was allegedly stabbed multiple times while she was at the school canteen. She was rushed to Hospital Banting for emergency treatment.

Police said the 15-year-old female suspect, who is also a student at the same school, allegedly entered the school through the main entrance before attacking the victim with a knife.

The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist investigations, which are being conducted under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
