Johor Police Seize 80kg Worth RM2.57 Million in Terrace House

Date:

Johor police have seized 80 kilograms of methamphetamine (syabu) valued at nearly RM2.57 million during a raid on a house in Bandar Penawar on September 2.

Johor Police Chief, Commissioner Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad, said the operation, conducted from 10:30 pm on September 2 until 4 am on September 3, involved the Kota Tinggi District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division and the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) of Johor Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK).

“During the raid, police arrested a local man and two women, including a local woman and an Indonesian woman, aged between 34 and 43,” he said at a press conference at Johor IPK today.

“The seized methamphetamine, weighing approximately 80,330 grams and packaged in 76 Chinese tea drink packets, has an estimated market value of RM2,570,560,” he added.

Ab Rahaman explained that the syndicate operated by using a gated terrace house as a transit storage point, distributing the drugs mainly to overseas markets, particularly in Riau and Batam, Indonesia. The syndicate is believed to have been active since April 2024. He noted that the seized meth could potentially supply around 401,650 users if it had reached the market.

Urine tests revealed that two of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine. Records also showed that the local male suspect had nine previous criminal records, while the local female suspect had six prior convictions related to drugs and other offenses.

He also highlighted that from January 1 to September 3 this year, JSJN Johor arrested 17,242 individuals for various drug offenses, seizing a total of 1.47 tonnes of drugs and 6,921.45 liters of liquid narcotics, with an estimated value of RM125.88 million.
