A 24-year-old mechanic has been remanded for seven days to assist police in the investigation into the alleged rape and robbery of a 15-year-old girl who was attacked while jogging in Palekbang last month.
The remand order, effective from Wednesday until 14 July, was issued by Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi at the Magistrate’s Court.
Police are investigating the case under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.
The suspect, who was dressed in a purple shirt, arrived at the courthouse at around 10am for the remand application.
The incident occurred on 17 June, during the Awal Muharram public holiday, when the teenage victim was reportedly out jogging with her younger brother in the Palekbang area.
According to earlier reports, the girl was allegedly attacked, robbed and sexually assaulted by an unidentified man before she was found injured near a bush at about 11am by members of the public.
She was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment, while police launched an investigation that later led to the suspect’s arrest.
