History was made at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards as BLACKPINK’s Rosé clinched the Song of the Year award for her smash collaboration with Bruno Mars, “APT.”, marking the first time a K-pop artist has ever won a major VMA category. The star-studded ceremony unfolded at New York’s UBS Arena on September 7.
Stepping onto the stage in a dazzling gold gown, Rosé could hardly contain her excitement. “I can’t believe this,” she exclaimed, before giving a heartfelt shoutout to Bruno Mars and reflecting on the journey behind the win: “This moment feels like a reward for all the effort that’s been put in.”
This year, Rosé shattered records with a staggering eight VMA nominations, including Video of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, and Best Direction.
The night also highlighted BLACKPINK’s individual brilliance: all four members were nominated in the Best K-pop category for their solo projects, with Lisa taking home her third VMA for “Born Again,” in collaboration with Doja Cat and Raye.
